Hello all of my fabulous Watchers and people who happen to stumble upon this journal!  Usually I'd start off by telling you what's been going on in my life and going into lots of detail, but today...

I'd like to give you all information about my COMMISSIONS:
Firstly, I am not going to sell myself short.  That being said, I am flexible and I keep in mind who is commissioning me. I base my prices off how long the task is going to take me, material costs (if any, including cost of print), and how the work is going to be used.  Personal commissions are going to be weighed differently than commercial commissions.
Here is a simple break-down for those looking for a quick estimate:

Quick Sketches = $30
(Please note, this isn't line-art.  My sketches are good, but are still sketches.  I won't spend a long time on these)
I will sketch on a blank cover variant for you if you mail it to me, for an added $5 due to shipping.
Please add $10 per extra figure.

Line Drawing = $50 to $100, depending on complexity + materials (if any)
Colored Line Drawing = $100 to $150, depending on complexity.
(Typically the focus being on a figure with minimal background.)
I will draw on a blank cover variant for you if you mail it to me, for an added $5 due to shipping.

Rendered BW Drawing = $100 to $150, depending on complexity + materials (if any)
Price may increase if this is a traditional, larger sized piece.  This is NOT equal to a BW rendered painting.  This is a drawing with values, not simply line work.  I will draw on a blank cover variant for you if you mail it to me, for an added $5 due to shipping.

Personal Use Only Painting = $200 - $500 + materials (if any)
I am ballparking this because there are so many variables: size, level of rendering desired, background, number of figures, color, etc... Please be as descriptive as possible.

For any serious, commercial freelance offers, please send me a note or an email.

Thank you for helping me reach this next milestone and your support, it of course means the world to me.  I can't make it as a professional illustrator without it and you all!  The past few months have been great, I must say.  I am still loving my apartment, I have been working full time at Dynamite, and I've been super busy painting, getting commissions, and planning for my next Comicon (NYC)!  Another milestone was met recently on my Facebook art page too, over 1,400 likes!! YAY, life is good!  I hope it's treating you well, too.  For the record, I will be cosplaying as Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman because it has been a long time dream of mine to have this costume!

I HOPE YOU ALL ARE HAVING FABULOUS DAYS, WHEREVER YOU ARE! :D

My name is Rachel and I am an Illustrator fresh out of college, pursuing professional freelance work. I work as a graphic designer at a comic book publisher and I fiddle with a variety of things, always seeking new challenges and knowing that there is always room to improve! :)

In the past year, I have won a place in the Society of Illustrator's annual student exhibition as well as "Outstanding Performance in Illustration" (Best In Show) at the senior thesis exhibition at Moore College of Art & Design. I have exhibited my work at art festivals and small art galleries with upcoming shows scheduled for 2015. It is my goal to start showing at Artist Alleys at east coast Comicons next year as well.

I primarily work digitally, using a Wacom tablet and Adobe Photoshop CS6. I also enjoy traditional media, especially pencil/ink drawing and oil painting (sometimes acrylics).

My main artistic interests are cover/pinup art and character design. I have a strong interest in fantasy/sci-fi genres and anything that allows me to infuse some rock-n-roll into my work.

I never got around to writing this journal and I didn't want to let more time slip by!  I don't want to spend forever typing as I am tired from work, but I'll go over the highlights!

NEW YORK COMIC-CON WAS AMAZING!

It was my first time attending this particular convention and I was lucky enough to be one of the 3-day passers (the people I went with were not so lucky, unfortunately)!  The crowd was not as bad as people made it out to be.  At least not for me, and I was SWAMPED with people wanting photographs the day I wore my Catwoman costume!  I felt like a celebrity for a day of my life haha.  It was a lot of fun!

I met my favorite artist: The Fantastic Adam Hughes!  And his lovely wife, who I had quite a nice time chatting with.  She's such a wonderful human being!  Adam was busy sketching away (and I am so thankful for the time he spent doing this for his fans!).  I was able to get a sketch of Michelle Pfeiffer's catwoman from him (which I cosplayed as the next day) and he signed a book of mine.

I also met two of my other favorite artists: Alex Garner and Stanley "Artgerm" Lau!  Alex is such an amazing individual.  I was blown away by how cool and nice he is.  I mean most of the people/artists I meet at these things are, but I really wish I had been more outgoing and talked to him a little bit about art, seeing how I am an illustrator myself.  It's just intimidating to talk to someone about art/your work/things in general sometimes.

And Leo Leibelman!! I had met him at Philly Comic-con and he is fantastic.  He remembered me too, which was so cool!!  I now own a total of 5 prints of his and I know my collection will grow if he continues to be at cons!  I love talking to him.  And his work.  His work is incredible.  I had the good fortune of seeing his oil paintings at Philly.  No suck luck this time at New York!

I met and purchased art from a selection of other artists I admire but again, I don't want to type all night :P I did miss out on saying "hello" to Vinnie Tartamella, which bums me out a lot though!

I went to a couple panels, including a Doctor Who one with a moderator in a like-themed Kilt! Very very fun.  I purchased a plushie of my first Pokemon (Bulbasaur) and my friends purchased a very nice Master Sword!  Also in Artist Alley, unexpectedly, was the artist behind Blacksad!! I am in love with that comic, so I was very happy to have the chance to purchase one of the books and have him sign and (another surprise!) sketch in it for me!!

I met a lot of great people, bought some cool comics, saw a lot of amazing statues and toys and cosplays!!!  Overall it was an incredible experience that I suspect I will have many times again, but my favorite part will always be what I described at length: Artist Alley.  Maybe in the future I will be less shy about talking to the people I respect so much!  I plan on making more costumes in the future... I can't be for sure what just yet, but I know that Kim Possible, Atom Eve, Team Magma, and my own Kingdom Hearts design are allll possibilities!

Okay I know this is short, but I really need to get back to work on this big piece I want to have done by Halloween!!

If you went to NYCC this year, what were your favorite things about it? :D

Get Lost by Rai-Kay
Get Lost
A tribute to one of my favorite movies: THE LOST BOYS!
I will probably spend some more time on this as I figure out the prints, however I am very happy with this as is!  I am also glad to finish this up as I have started a couple other projects that I am excited to get into!  I hope to have my Etsy store up soon (maybe a Storenvy too).

If you are interested in a commission, please see my profile/journal for info and rates! :)

You have some interesting pieces. You mention that you are a comic book publisher. Maybe you want to come over to my gallery and have a little look at what I've been working on.

I will gladly take a look at your profile when I get out of work :)
But, I am not personally a comic book publisher.  I work for one called Dynamite

Your Harley quinn dosen't take into account the fact that she is absolutely fucking loopy.Completely and violently insane. Even the joker is a little bit scared of her. That' why he likes her, it turns him on. By the way, you have a great mouth.

I do wish you had posted this on my actual piece instead of my profile… but I thank you for your thoughts!  I feel as though I captured the obsessive tendencies of the character in a fun way for the pin-up, though I can understand liking a darker, more violent portrayal.  I can see how this could look more insane.  Thank you for the feedback!  Maybe someday when I have more time I will make another Harley piece and try to combine the insane and sweetheart/fun elements more.

Yes, that's exactly right. It's the combination of insane and sweetheart that some men find so dangerously  intriguing. It's all in the eyes. Sorry that I marred your otherwise perfect profile.
