Howdy Y'all!
Hm… I'm not sure what inspired the sudden accent. But, as usual, here is my "next thousand views update". My view count has been rather sluggish recently, but to no surprise because I have not really updated my DA gallery in quite a while. But trust me! I've been working really hard on my thesis project for school for the past…. going on 6 months. And my senior show is in less than two months!! I chose not to release any of my thesis works until the end of April, but you can be sure to expect some pretty cool things coming from my account starting at that time! I've been trying to work on things on the side but…clearly it hasn't worked out
Exciting news: I'm extremely happy to announce that I am one of the 329 winners (out of 9,000 entries) for the Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Competition!! My winning work will be on display in New York City at the Society's gallery in May! Whether or not I won any cash prizes is not yet determined… But, I am just excited to be in the show and very happy for my other two buddies who also won a spot in the show!
In other good news, my work at Dynamite is going very well. I'm excited to be full time after I graduate; I really love all my co-workers and seem to have found quite a comfortable place within the office. The "real world" seems intimidating at times, but it's going to be very cool all the same. On the side I have also been designing a logo for an office-team within Comcast, which is also pretty nifty. I'm getting kind of pumped about my most recent designs for them and am hoping they like what I came up with!
And some people have this strange interest in the TV I've been watching recently…which would be Doctor Who. I'm almost done with all the episodes they offer on Netflix and thus far (spoiler alerts?) I'm super bummed about what happened to Donna (she's been my favorite companion thus far because I'm kind of over the whole "romance" thing), I'm sad about Rose but happy at the same time because that beach scene was way too sweet, and… the 9th Doctor will always have a special place in my heart because I love that actor but… the 10th Doctor grew on me for sure! We will see what kind of opinion I formulate about the 11th Doctor but…with Rose and Donna gone and River entering the picture, I can completely feel a need for some change.
THE FEELS!! ALL THE FEELS!!
Anyway. I'm sorry I haven't been updating my work very much, but I think you will understand once I've completed my thesis and am ready to reveal!
Thank you for all the love & support!
Rachel
20,000 Views - Brains + School + Mermaids
Hello Hello Hello!
It's been about a whole year since I last made a journal and life has been an absolute crazy rollercoaster ride in that time. I still can't fully wrap my brain around it. Speaking of brains... I'll just start out by saying that I AM OKAY but that last year starting in September (lasting until late January) I had a spontaneous, serious, eye problem with my optic nerve that through MRI scans led to something along the lines of "oh yeah and on top of that, you have a benign brain tumor". My friends have affectionately named it "Bubbles", which I am okay with and have found comfort in. Not only do I appreciate keeping a se

Howdy Watchers & Deviants!
Since Free Comic Book Day I've experienced a much appreciated break from the constantly-having-to-work pile of commissions and projects. I still have work to do, but not as much and without crunched deadlines! The comic I colored and lettered is out in the world, having debuted on FCBD, and I've finished a couple more new prints for 2016 conventions. I've had a lot of great experiences in the comic realm in the last year or two, I've met some great artists, writers, and enthusiasts, made new friends, and learned a lot about self publishing and the process of putting together a comic. Even more than what I'v

Hello, Watchers & Deviants!
I am SO BUSY these days! I feel very drained and the effects of that have certainly been taking its toll, but I will keep plugging away!
My two buddies and I are going to be debuting a comic on Free Comic Book Day in May, so I am veryyy busy finishing up those colors and letters. It is taking me longer than expected but it will go to print in April one way or another! I have also been approached about two projects, one in comics and one in book publishing. The latter is fairly set in stone and I will begin to create a cover / book sleeve in May for the first book in a fun series written by an art direct
14,000 Views - A New Year!
Woo! Another thousand views in under two months' time! I've also seen a seemingly permanent rise to my daily views. This is exciting stuff, for me anyway.
Hopefully this is a sign that the quality of my work is improving, that my skills are sharpening... but it is definitely also due to my faster production! I'm very pleased with this, but I'd like to perhaps slow down to work more intensively, focusing heavily on improvement, and taking my time to REALLY create some portfolio worthy show-pieces! I have a semi-steady stream of commissions coming in as well, so I've adjusted my prices to better reflect the demand + my work. It's certain
